DRV8705S-Q1EVM: Using the EVM by controlling INx and nSLEEP directly

Part Number: DRV8705S-Q1EVM

Tool/software:

I am considering purchasing one EVM boards for my application. I need to drive an inductive load (magnetic dipole antenna) using a 5-20Hz current waveform ON:OFF:-ON:OFF delivering a max current of 9.6A that have a slow ramp-up (~5ms) and a fast (1-5us) and linear current ramp-off (this waveform is also called a "sharkfin"). I wanted to know if I can use the EVM using the ENx and nSLEEP header pins, bypassing the USB and UART communication. I am using a Raspberry Pi 5 to do antenna and receiver array control and data acquisition. Suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

  • Hi,

Thank you for your questions. First of all, DRV8705S-Q1 is motor driver. Basically, this device is used to drive motor. It is OK for you to drive the magnetic dipole antenna, but you may see some gap.

EVM has 0ohm resisters between MSP430(MCU) and DRV's logic interface. This could be used for ENx and nSLEEP pins connection change.

Please have Raspberry Pi 5 connection by yourself - cannot be supported by TI.

    regards

    Shinya
