DRV8143H-Q1EVM: Device and Recirculation Path configuration for DRV8143

Part Number: DRV8143H-Q1EVM

Tool/software:

Hello Colleague

Here is the screenshot from DRV8143 datasheet,

1. May I know how to configure the "Device" and "Recirculation Path"? I don't find the specific pin for the configuration.

2. In my application, our product includes 2 ECU and each ECU has 1pcs DRV8143. They will work together to drive one motor, due to functional safety request. May I use the device mode of  "Full Bridge with two DRV8143"? In this application, how to do the off-state diagnosis?

  • Hi,

Thank you for your questions. You are posting on public E2E, not internal.

    1)

Top 2 are Device configuration with Fig 9-1. 3rd one is Fig 9-2. 4th one if Fig 9-3

If both output set H by IN pin of 2 devices, it is high side recirculation.

    2) Yes, it is possible and showing as Fig 9-1.

Off line diag can be done based on section 7.3.4.3.

    Thanks

If you have further questions, please disclose your customer's name and application use case.

    regards

  • Hello Shinya,

This is FAE Daniel supporting Conti, Li Bing is the hardware from my customer.

I think there are some misunderstandings for the above discussion, here is the background: Joshua suggested customer to use 2x DRV8144 to drive H-bridge, instead of 1x DRV8244 due to the current capability limitation, Li Bing have some concerns about the compatibility for the DRV8144 driving one H bridge.

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/1514288/drv8244-q1-drv8244-output-pin-connected-together-to-increase-current-capability/5832516#5832516

    1. The first question is: is there a certain mode in 8144/3 supporting H bridge configuration, to ensure the two devices can work together without conflict?

We didn't find such mode in the datasheet, pls clarify if there is.

    2. If there is no such mode, we got some concerns for the compatibility, for example, how does device implement off state diagnostic, especially for open load detection, what will happen if the two parts detect the impedance simultaneously? Is there any timing requirement for the H-bridge dual-side detection?

    3. Is there any successful story that using this kind of scheme, or any problems found?

    Thank

    Regards,

    Daniel Wang

  • Hello Shinya,

May I get your feedback today?

  • Hi Daniel,

You are posting on public E2E. I recommend to post to internal if you want to have deeper discussion.

    1. It is described on datasheet how to use.

To drive motor with PWM, one side of DRV's output should be DC ON of HS or LS. Then another side is PWM. Nothing special.

    2.Diag also works.

    3.no issue

    regards

    Shinya
