DRV7308: Power Losses

Part Number: DRV7308
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG2652

Tool/software:

Hello,

It is hard to compare the DRV7308 with the LMG2652.

A Powerloss calculator is missing for the DRV7308.

EOSS is missing in the Datasheet

What is the best way to calculate the losses?

recommended maximum currents are missing. What is the maximum recommended currents @125°C?

what are the maximum Pulse currents?

Best regards

Jan Hummel

  • i really liked the following graphics of the Switching energy losses of the Datasheet www.ti.com/.../lmg3410r070.pdf

  • Hi Jan,

Thank you for your question! We hope to have a power loss calculator available on ti.com in the coming weeks, in the meantime I may be able to provide a preliminary estimate if you are able to provide the following parameters:

    DC input voltage

    RMS motor current

PWM modulation type - 2 phase or 3 phase FOC?

    PWM frequency

    Slew rate

    ambient temperature

The device max current capability is 4A at 150C, however the recommended max current will largely depend on thermal management to ensure the die temperature stays below 150C.

Regarding maximum pulse currents, what duration and frequency do you have in mind for the pulse currents? Are you referring to a stall condition causing the pulse currents, or a different condition? What is the amplitude of the pulse currents expected in your system?

  • Hello Anthony,

for such details i prefer to a switch to a email conversation. can you somehow contact me ?

I am planning to have a really good thermal management that is the reason i am asking.

The current of  4 A is also the maximum current at 125°C?

for maximum Currents i am thinking of 1ms at a Temperatur of 85° or to compare it to the LMG2652 the same value:

i am also wondering what are the pulse currents behavior and limits of this device in 3 quadrant when the GAN Fet is not powered and the DC-link Capacitor is charged when the grid is turned on.

    Best Regards

  • Hi Jan,

Let me discuss this more with the team and get back to you.
