DRV8873: Is DRV8873 suitable for driving my DC brushed motor?

Part Number: DRV8873
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8243-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi TI team,

I’m considering using the DRV8873 to drive a DC brushed motor and would like to confirm if it is suitable for the motor I plan to use. I’ve attached the motor datasheet for your reference.

Here are the key specs:

Thanks!

  • Hi Tom,

The DRV8873 would work for either for the BDC motor in the pdf. The only item that I cannot find is the rated stall current, even on the official website, I assume it will be lower than the OCP of this device but I cannot find this information so I would recommend verifying this.

I will recommend taking a look at the DRV8243-Q1 as well, its a very similar device with lower RDSon which will allow it to handle higher currents for longer periods than the DRV8873 without hitting TSD. Also the DRV8243-Q1 has additional features which may be useful to have.

    Regards,

    Joshua
