MCF8329A-Q1: A technical question regarding the MCF8329A-Q1.

Part Number: MCF8329A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8329

Tool/software:

Hello, I would like to ask a technical question regarding the MCF8329A-Q1.

1. Current sensing

I’d like to inquire about the worst‐case error of the current sensor embedded in the gate driver.

In particular, could you please provide information on any factors that may contribute to error, such as gain error, offset, VREF tolerance, ADC conversion error, etc.?

Usage Conditions:

  • Gain: ×20

  • Temperature range: –40 °C to +125 °C

  • Shunt resistor: 2 mΩ, tolerance ±1 %

2. loss of phase

I would like to use the loss‐of‐phase feature for phase‐open diagnosis. Is it necessary to run the motor in order to perform this diagnosis?

Could you please explain how this feature works?

Thank you for your assistance.

  • Hi EUN JIN SHIN,

If you are running motor in speed control mode, MCF8329 provides <3% speed accuracy across device operating conditions when internal oscillator used as a clock source. It can be improved by using external clock with better clock accuracy.

For loss of phase, Yes, motor has to be connected to the device. No-motor fault (Loss of phase) occurs if the motor current stays below than “NO_MTR_THR” for 500ms when it is in open loop state.

    Regards,

    Dhinesh

  • Hello,

I would like to follow up on my first inquiry. I’m not interested in the speed error, but rather the error of the current sensor.

Since the gate driver includes a built-in current sensor, could you please provide the worst-case error specifications for this sensor and the factors that contribute to its error?  In particular, could you please provide information on any factors that may contribute to error, such as gain error, offset, VREF tolerance, ADC conversion error, etc.?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Dhinesh is OOO, let me try to chime in.

You need to verify driver DRV8329 Q1 data sheet for more information about the CSA, MCF8329A-Q1 is driver plus controller.

    DRV8329-Q1 4.5 to 60V Three-phase BLDC Gate Driver datasheet (Rev. A)
