DRV3901-Q1: DRV3901 IREF side external resistance calculation

Part Number: DRV3901-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team,

I’m working on a Pyro switch circuit with the following current deployment requirements:

  • 12V, 1.2 A for 2 ms/ 1.75 A for 0.5 ms/ Up to 3.4 A for 0.5 ms

I would like clarification on the following design points:

  1. IREF Pin External Resistor Selection:
How should I calculate the external resistor value (R_EXT, e.g., 10 kΩ) at the IREF pin? Specifically, how is the IREF_IEXT current determined with respect to this resistance, and what’s the appropriate value for my load conditions?

  2. Inductor or Ferrite Beads on OUTH/OUTL:
Is it necessary to use an inductor (or ferrite bead) on both OUTH and OUTL? If so, how do I determine the optimal inductance value (e.g., <22 µH) to suit the specified load pulse conditions?

  3. dv/dt Suppression Capacitor (C11):
in reference design C11 between PYRO+ and PYRO− to absorb dv/dt transients. Is this approach recommended?
