DRV8849EVM: Can't connect after MSP update

Part Number: DRV8849EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8849, DRV8434A,

Tool/software:

Customer has below issue, ordered new EVM however this might be helpful for other customers as well.

---------------

the GUI, drivers and so on are installed.
The other EVM with the DRV8434A is working fine, but not the DRV8849.

If I push the programming button, the GUI tell that the MSP is programmed fine but I get no connection from GUI.

Maybe the EVM is damaged and could not connect from MSP to DRV?

I could program the MSP there for I think the communication should work.

I Installed the GUI locally and use the google chrome browser version. Both doesn’t get a connection. Both could programm the MSP. On the Board I see, that the programing is working because the leds stops flashing while programming.

  • Hi Frank,

    Thank you for your post.

The DRV8434A uses a different USB HW and driver. So good USB operation in this EVM does not confirm the drivers are correctly installed for the DRV8849EVM.

After the reprogramming of the flash in the DRV8849EVM, make sure the MCU_STATUS LED blinks at around 1 Hz. If not press RST button and ensure the MCU_STATUS is blinking. The USB VCP (virtual COM port) should enumerate as follows. The COMxx numbers may vary in your computer. You must have two MSP COMxx. The GUI serial port configuration must point to the MSP Application UART1 COMxx.

If the enumeration is not correct make sure to install the MSP430 FET Drivers as mentioned in page-6 of the EVM User's Guide.
