MCT8329A: Evaluation of System State

Part Number: MCT8329A

Tool/software:

Dear TI Team,

we have developed a ESC using 4 MCT8329A chips on a single PCB, and it has been working great so far. I am currently evaluating some test runs, and would like to ask some clarification in the four motor state bits found within the SYS_STATUS2 register.

There are some states which are pretty self explanatory, such as the MOTOR_BRAKE,  MOTOR_IDLE, MOTOR_ALIGN, MOTOR_IPD, MOTOR_STOP, FAULT states, however I am a little unclear on the others. As an example, what is the difference between SYSTEM_IDLE and MOTOR_IDLE, during testing some SYSTEM_IDLE states were detected following a motor command of 0%, and sometimes a MOTOR_IDLE is reported instead.
Additionally, I would like to ask if there is a way to determine if the motor is in open or closed loop based on the system state. Does the MOTOR_RUN state include both open and closed loop operation, or are they separate states?

Thank You for Your time,

Simon Calvini
