DRV10964EVM: Unable to drive high speed drone motor

I’m trying to use the evaluation module to drive a VCI 22000 KV drone motor. Since its maximum speed exceeds 900 Hz, I set the Config pin to 4.85V and supplied 3.7V to power the motor. However, I’m not seeing any response from the controller or the motor. I also tried a lower 11000 KV drone motor, but there was still no reaction. Interestingly, I was able to successfully run a Maxon 371122 motor (no-load speed: 15,600 RPM) even without using the Config pin. Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing this issue? Hi ,

VCI 22000 KV is high current motor and parameters are not suitable to drive DRV10964

Maxon is withing the recommended range and DRV10964 current ability if 500mA.

Thank you for the information. I just had a quick follow-up question: Is there an evaluation board from TI you would recommend for driving the VCI motor, preferably one that includes a motor auto-profiler function? Thanks so much!

You can verify from Trap MCT8316A and FOC based MCF8316C/D and MCF8315C/D.

Thank you, I’ll give them a try. I currently have a DRV8311HEVM evaluation board, but the online GUI profiler wasn’t able to identify the motor—likely because the default parameters are too far off. I’ve seen some suggestions to modify the source code and update the defaults to better match the motor’s parameters. Would you recommend this approach? Thanks again!

You can use MCF8316C EVM and verify SmartTune feature provided through MOTORSRTUDIO GUI.
