DRV8873SEVM: DVR8873S rewiev design & question

Part Number: DRV8873SEVM

Tool/software:

I'm designing circuit where one of the feature will be BDC motor control. Motor current is 1,6A, in peak 6,5A so I chosen DRV8873S. IC will be controlled by Raspberry Pico 2 W. Could someone take look on my schematic and advise me in case mistake?
I have question about bulk capacitance - there is a way how calculate it? 2nd question: it's oligatory design circuit on four layer board or can be done also at two layers?

  • Hi Michal,

The schematic looks ok. It would be recommended to use more bulk capacitance. Generally we recommend always using more rather than less bulk capacitance with the disadvantages being increased cost and physical size. You can use the following app note to help calculate the correct amount of bulk cap for your application. The PCB design doesn't have to be 4-layers but it can help with layout and thermal management depending on the application. Please review the following app note for best PCB design practices for motor driver applications.
