DRV8262: DRV8262 DDV package heatsink solution

Part Number: DRV8262

Tool/software:

Hello again,

I am trying to use DRV8262 DDV package with heatsink for custom PCB.

What are you thoughts about using aluminum chassis as heatsink instead of using a separate PCB mount heatsink on top of the IC? We are not able to place this type of heatsink as we have a tight height and PCB dimension constraint. Is using aluminum chassis feasible solution for DDV or DDW package? I am going to be using single H-bridge for brushed DC motor for driving constant 4A load.

Thanks

  • Hi Zhang,

    Thanks for your question.

Is using aluminum chassis feasible solution for DDV or DDW package?

It could be a solution for DDV package. The DDV package device must be used with an heatsink mounted snugly interfacing with the top side thermal tab. Assuming you have a good machined surface to interface perfectly with the top thermal tab and secured adequately it may serve as an heatsink.

The DDW package does not interface with an external heatsink because the thermal pad for it will be only on its bottom side. The PCB copper top layer and other layers connected with thermal vias will be the heatsink for the DDW package. Thank you.
