Hi Tim,
A “backplane error” in the DRV81242-Q1EVM GUI generally signals a communication failure between the evaluation module and the GUI software, often due to improper USB initialization or power sequencing. This can happen if the USB cable is connected after powering the EVM, which may prevent the onboard debugger (EZ-FET) from starting correctly. It could also be caused by missed or incorrect jumper configuration on the EVM. J1 and J18 must be correctly placed to ensure proper power routing and device initialization.
Please try the following steps:
1. Disconnect both power and USB; then reconnect the USB cable before applying power to the board. Ensure that LEDs D2 (EZFET) and D5 (3.3V) are solid ON, confirming proper initialization.
2. Verify that jumpers J1 and J18 are correctly placed to route power to VDD and VM_HS, respectively.
3. If the issue persists, try a different USB port or cable, and reinstall the TI MSP430 USB driver.
Best,
David
