DRV8235: Question on DRV8234 vs DRV8235

Part Number: DRV8235
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8234, , DRV8214

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I had a quick question regarding DRV8234 and DRV8235.

Both seem to use ripple current sensing, but why doesn’t DRV8235 support position control while DRV8234 does? Is it related to error correction?

Also, for motors that only require speed control, would DRV8235 be a better option?

Appreciate your insights!

  • Hello,

The DRV8234 and DRV8235 are both part of the same family of products but you are correct, the DRV8235 doesn't have ripple counting. Ripple counting is only in DRV8214 and DRV8234 and is a form of open loop position control.

Above is a table showing all devices within this family with their feature sets.

Yes, I think if speed regulation is all that's needed, I would suggest the DRV8235.

    Best,

    David
