DRV8434A: not clear if sleep pin is needed to enable stall detect

Part Number: DRV8434A

Tool/software:

From the detailed description in the datasheet It seems like all that is needed to enable stall detect is to supply a voltage threshold to the STL_TH pin and STL_MODE pin tied to VDD, but there is a flowchart (figure 7-14) that shows a reset pulse on the sleep pin is needed after setting this threshold...what is the correct procedure?

Also, it is not clear if a reset pulse from the sleep line is needed to clear a stall detect fault.

From the datasheet, it mentions that the sleep reset pulse is only needed to clear latched faults and as far as I can tell, the only fault that is latched appears to be the open load fault.

  • Hi Kenneth,

The DRV8434A does not require an nSLEEP reset pulse just for setting the stall threshold. An nSLEEP reset is only needed if you want to clear a latched stall fault after its been triggered or if the device needs to be reset for some reason.
