DRV8353R: About the built-in power module LM5008

Part Number: DRV8353R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5008

Tool/software:

Hi, Staff

I'd like to inquire: ‌If I disable the built-in power module LM5008 of DRV8353RS, will it affect the normal operation of DRV8353RS? Since the datasheet does not clearly state that the LM5008 module supplies power to other internal modules, I intend to shut it down to reduce the peripheral components.

  • Hello,

If you disable the LM5008 there will not be any loss of functionality. You can see the buck block is isolated in the Figure 16 of the datasheet.

We also have parts without the buck entirely, in DRV8353H package (non R variant)

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Thanks for your answer, Joseph

Of course, package without R variant would be a better choice.
After disable(pull down RT/SD) the LM5008 module, the relevant pins require any specific processing(left floating or pull down)?
    Appreciated,
    Jared

  • Hi Jared,

While the recommendation would be to migrate to the Non-R variant, here is something you can try regarding disabling the LM5008:

    1. Like you mentioned, disable the buck by pulling down RT/SD.

    2. To ensure shutdown mode, pull down VCC pin as well.

    3. Once these two pins are pulled down, the LM5008 should be disabled. I would guess that you can also GND Vin, RCL, and GND, and float BST, SW, FB.

You may be able to try that as a start and see if you run into any issues.

    Thanks,

    Joseph
