DRV2604EVM-CT: How can I connect to the Haptic Control Console?

Part Number: DRV2604EVM-CT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2604, USB2ANY, DRV2624,

Tool/software:

I have USB2Any connected to my pc through usb, and the drv2604 is powered up. I have i2c connected to J4 (pins 6, 9 and 10) of the usb2any. But the Haptic Control Console doesn't recognize my EVM.

The HCC user manual says: "the board must be set to GUI mode by holding down the plus (+) button for approximately three seconds. The LEDs will flash and then the right half of the LEDs will remain on to indicate the board is in GUI mode."  But pressing the (+) button doesn't do anything while i2c wires are connected. If I remove the i2c wires, the (+) button flashes LEDs but the right half don't stay on indicating GUI mode.

I searched the drv2604evm user guide and there's no mention of GUI mode.

Please help me connect.

  • Hi Keith,

In HCC manual, you need to hold "+" button twice: once until the mode LEDs flash and the colored LEDs flash once and a second time until the mode LEDs flash and the colored LEDs flash twice. Then hit B1=ERM or B2=LRA. This is at the top of Page 8 in the HCC guide.

I believe you were reading the instructions for DRV2624/25, which do not need the USB2ANY to connect to the PC.

Interestingly the DRV2604EVM-CT User Guide does have "Additional Hardware Modes" section (3), but it describes this as putting the device into Binary mode, not GUI mode. It should also be in GUI mode at that point. Please let me know if you have any issues.

  • Hi Kelly,

I followed the procedure you suggested, pressing and holding the (+) button twice, and seeing the colored lights flash twice, but I still can't connect. I'm not surprised since the procedure mentions hitting B!=ERM, which shouldn't be related to connecting with HCC. Do you have any other thoughts?

  • Hi Keith,

I believe the B1/B2 buttons to set the output is based on GPIO settings (HW controlled), which is spelled out in the user guide.. I'm having someone test this in the lab and will send an update as soon as possible.

  • Hi Keith,

My colleague* was able to get the EVM connected over the USB2ANY.

He did have to setup the USB2ANY per these instructions.

    Screen show once connected.
