DRV8434A-Q1: DRV8434A-Q1 with TPS92544

Part Number: DRV8434A-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear all,

I forward some images of my schematic for driving a stepper motor with a TPS92544 and DRV8434A-Q1 stepper controller.

Firstly, I'm testing register configuration with LEDMCUEVM-122 and TPS92544EVM eval board and the stepper motor is working correctly. I can move it in both direction smoothly.

Then I shift to my own board; in this case the supply is provided directly from a 12V dcdc and not from buck driver because it is used to turn on some LEDs.
I send the messages directly from LEDMCUEVM-122 from UART_TX and RX pins, setting SEPTR bit to 1 for direct UART communication.

Once I try to activate the stepper motor, I can see a current consumption and I hear some noise coming from motor but it doesn't move; I have also tried to remove the TPS driver and snipping signals to the stepper controller directly from TPS92544 eval board but the behaviour is the same.

Could you help me?

  • Hi Pietro,

    Thank you for your question.

Based on the schematic, the microstepping is set at 1/2step.

What is the STEP PPS frequency input and motor resistance and VREF?

Can you capture Aout current waveform, output voltage A1, and A2 and nFAULT?

Can the 12 V dc/dc provide enough current to rotate the motor?

    Best regards,

    Mojtaba.
