DRV8351EVM: No output from demo board

Part Number: DRV8351EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have the 8351EVM board plugged into a Launchxl-F280049C control board. after carefully following all the getting started guides for both boards I do not get a PWM signal out when the output is enabled. I am using the recommended GUI that was downloaded from TI. I know that the GUI is connected to the board because It is showing voltages from the board and there are no faults indicated. What could I be missing to not get power out when increasing the output slider?

  • Hello,

Can you make sure that the GUI says "Hardware Connected" on the bottom of the screen? Also, to clarify, you have the output enable switched on, AND have a duty cycle selected? (start low around 20%)

If the answers to the above questions are true, here is what I will ask to see:

    1. Picture of the set up when everything is on and connected

    2. Waveform captures, probing the INHA, GHA, SHA, and GVDD signals.

    Thank you,

    Joseph

  • yes, it is connected and enabled

    INHA - Yellow

    GHA - Blue

    SHA - Pink

GVDD was measured as 12.24 with a multimeter

  • Hello,

    Thanks for the quick update.

This shows that no inputs are being sent from the MCU.

Double check your hall sensors and make sure that they are connected correctly.

I assume you have the board mounted correctly, but double check that just in case (DRV EVM should be on top of the LaunchXL)

You have also removed JP1, JP2, and JP3 isolation jumpers from the LaunchXL?

    Thank you,

    Joseph

  • the board is mounted on top of J5 and J8 of the C2000 board. the isolation jumpers are removed. Do I actually need the Hall sensors? I thought the board has FOC control as well.

  • Hello,

Yes, this GUI only runs sensored trapezoidal commutation code.

Of course, the board and device itself can operate using FOC commutation algorithms, but unfortunately we do not have FOC example code/GUIs for this specific device.

    Thank you,

    Joseph
