MCF8329EVM: Using it to evaluate MCF8329A-Q1

Hello TI-Team,

we are developing an automotive part and thus we need the MCF8329A-Q1. However for evaluation I an wondering if I can use the EVM with MCF8329A? Until now we had the MCF8329RRYEVM, however some documents do not apply e.g. "MCF83xx - Open Loop to Closed Loop Handoff Tuning" as the "-Q1" chip does not have a DACOUT or the description in motorstudio is for MCF8329EVM.

Are there any functional differences like registers are different, algorithms are different,...? I could not find a reasonable difference in the datasheet

Hi Manual,

MCF8329A and MCF8329A-Q1 use the same FOC algorithm. DACOUT/SOx/SPEED_ANA, BRAKE, VREG and GTRL pin functions are not supported in MCF8329A-Q1.

Hello Dhinesh,

thanks for the answer. So do you recommend to use MCF8329EVM for pre-development for MCF8329A-Q1 as it has the additional output (for debugging), but almost every other register is the same so no big issues should arrise?

Hi Manuel,

Yes, you can use MCF8329EVM for evaluation and migrate to MCF8329A-Q1 with no change in register settings.
