DRV2625: Optimal Mode for Soothing Haptic Effects

Part Number: DRV2625

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

We are using the DRV2625 with an 80Hz LRA to create a smooth, humming effect with a sine wave envelope via RTP.

We see two options:

  1. Closed-Loop: Modulating the target intensity.

  2. Open-Loop: Using the sine wave output and modulating its amplitude.

For the best smoothness and stability for this specific application, which mode is officially recommended?

  • Hi Holly,

If possible I typically recommend closed-loop operation. Some newer + larger LRAs do not work with this algorithm though due to the larger back-emf that is outside of the devices capability. If this is the case calibration will not pass. In closed loop operation the device can resonance track, auto brake, and auto over drive will allow for "crispier" haptic effects.

For smoothness and stability though there shouldn't be much difference between the two modes. I recommend trying both with your application. You can easily use our EVM to connect to the LRA mounted in your system.
