The stepper motor driver board has that MSP430F261X-PM64 on it, and it has debug connection. But I cannot locate any links to the firmware project for it in any of the DRV8889-Q1EVM documentation.
(There is an available project with drv8889-q1 firmware/library to use if one users an external MCU such as MSPM0L1306, but that requires to buy external MCU/board).
Could you share please that code for that onboard MCU?

May I ask you which firmware version/project should I use, I found 2 if i'm not misten inside:
