MCF8316C-Q1: Back EMF Threshold

Part Number: MCF8316C-Q1

Tool/software:

I am using the MCF8316C (potentially D variant soon) I am having trouble with the BEMF threshold for closed loop handoff, currently I have it set to 32.5% of the maximum speed which translates to about 6Vp2p for a phase to phase measurement, is there a good way to determine what the actual minimum is that the driver can use to clearly detect each phase? I would like to reduce the minimum speed needed to make that transition.

How can I best approach finding the minimum BEMF threshold?

  • Hi Paul,

    We have SamrtTune feature, using which we can auto tune for the motor.

    Alternate method is, enable auto hand off with min BEMF to auto hand off configuration to 0 and measure the speed at which device hands off to closed loop successfully.

    Registers

    MOTOR_STARTUP2[AUTO_HANDO FF_EN] = 1

    INT_ALGO_1[AUTO_HANDOFF_MIN_BEMF] = 0

    Thanks and Best Regards
