DRV8332: DKDR Replacement

Hi Philip,

You are correct, we currently don't have any integrated drivers out right now with the current capability of DRV8332DKD. I believe our highest rate part right now is DRV8316 with a peak currently of 8A. We do however have a new integrated FET driver releasing next year with current capability of 40A that I can send more details via email?

Sure, if you don't mind sending specs on the integrated FET driver coming out next year I'd appreciate it.

The voltage range on the DRV8316 isn't high enough for our application.

I don't think our 40A part work work for you either then since it is has similar voltage rating as DRV8316.

What is your application? Any other requirements other than current and voltage?

Have you considered a gate driver?

I'm not opposed to using a gate driver given that we will have to respin the board anyways. The application is in aerospace. Functionally, I need something as close as possible to the DRV8332DKDR:

I need:

1.) HW Programmable Cycle by Cycle Current Limiting

2.) Some type of shoot through / dead time protection. Ideally, All three of the Half bridges would be controlled in the same chip for better shoot through protection.

3.) We liked the thermal Over temperature warning on the DRV8332. If we use a gate drive, I'm not sure we can have this.

4.) The bus voltage peak will be ~60V max, but we need some margin to the rating of the part.

We've found some gate drivers that look like they might work, but we're struggling to add cycle by cycle current limiting to them

Have you thought about implementing cycle-by-cycle current limiting externally? I'm not entirely familiar how this would be done but I did find a reference design where its implemented with three half bridge gate drivers

This reference design uses three separate half bridge drivers but I think this CSA application could be implemented with any of our drivers.
