DRV8899-Q1: Do STEP and I2C R/W work separately?

Part Number: DRV8899-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer have concern for interference about STEP input and I2C register read/write. I think these STEP and I2C R/W works separately, so there is no interference, no concern.

Can you check their query please? Is there any recommended I2C read/write timing during motor is driving(STEP inputing)?

Regards,

Youhei MIYAOKA

  • Hi Youhei,

    Thank you for your question.

To clarify, the DRV8899 device supports the SPI interface, but it does not have I2C registers. If the customer is seeking information on the SPI timing requirements or wants to control the STEP pulses through the SPI interface, please refer to section 6.6, "SPI Timing Requirements". Could you please provide more context or specify the exact concern of the customer so we can better assist them?

    Best regards

    Mojtaba.

  • Hi Mojtaba,

I'm sorry I2C is my typo. Can you answer by changing to SPI from I2C?

There is no interference between SPI and step. Depending on the SPI-STEP bit in CTRL3 register the customer can control the motor with input pin for step or over the SPI communication.

Please refer to section 6.6, "SPI Timing Requirements".
