DRV8251EVM: Driving from external controller

Part Number: DRV8251EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8251

Specifications state that the on-board MSP430 MCU can be disconnected so the DRV8251 on the DRV8251EVM Evaluation Module can be controlled by an external controller.

How is that done in practice? By removing the MSP430, cutting a trace or setting a jumper?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Kim,

In order to connect an external MCU to drive the DRV8251, the 0 Ω resistors that connect MCU to DRV need to be removed first. The schematic for the DRV8251EVM can be downloaded from the product page . After removed 0 Ω resistors, the external MCU signals can be connected to J4 to control the DRV8251.

    Best,
