MCF8329EVM: Unable to generate configuration from SmartTune

Part Number: MCF8329EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCF8329A

I have an MCF8329EVM connected to a BLDC motor with no load.  The motor is 36V, 1760W rated .  We have filled in the basic information in the Motor Studio GUI  but every time I run the Smart Tune function, it results in the message "Configuration Failed".  Nothing we do changes this outcome.  The motor is a ‎Vipxyctw3dski7655665 (Amazon.com: Vipxyc Scooter Electric Motor, 560KV Alu Shell Outrunner Brushless Sensored Motor for E-Scooter Skateboard Bike Kit, Brushless Motor : Sports & Outdoors )

These are the settings I have put in:

  • “No Load” selected – we don’t have any load connected to the motor
  • Rated Voltage set to 36V – this is correct for this motor (in our product we will use a 48V motor, but we don’t have one of those yet)
  • Rated Current = 48,88A from the rated Watts
  • Rated Speed = 1050Hz calculated from the motor datasheet using max speed = 9000rpm) & the number of pole pairs = 7 .  7 pole pairs = 14 poles.
    Using your formula Speed in Hz = N x P/120 = 9000 x 14/120 = 1050Hz
  • Control Mode is set to “Speed Mode”
  • MCF8329x Shunt Resistance = 1mW from MCF8329A documentation

The motor spins when I try to generate the configuration, but it  results in the message "Configuration Failed". What can I do to get it to work?
