DRV8462: auto-torque algorithm

Part Number: DRV8462

Hi Murugavel,

I believe it is necessary to be mindful of performance limitations when using the auto-torque function at low speeds. Could you explain the specific algorithm? This auto-torque function should be monitoring the BEMF. Do you think it would be possible to stabilize the operation at low speeds by incorporating a circuit that amplifies the BEMF value?

Regards,

Max

  • Hi Fujimoto-san,

All the information regarding the auto torque algorithm that could be shared with our customers are published in the DRV8462 datasheet and this application note. No additional information is available to share.

This auto-torque function should be monitoring the BEMF.

The algorithm does not monitor the BEMF directly. It used the BEMF information to calculate the load angle in other words the load torque. For this calculation good SNR for BEMF is necessary.

Do you think it would be possible to stabilize the operation at low speeds by incorporating a circuit that amplifies the BEMF value?

Unfortunately the internal algorithm blocks are self contained and it is not possible to incorporate any additional circuit to these blocks such as amplifying BEMF voltage. As well as amplifying BEMF would not be a solution for low BEMF because amplification may not improve the SNR in this case, for low BEMF values noise also would be amplified equally.

    Regards, Murugavel
