DRV8353R: Response to Hall error

I am analyzing single-event upset events and their effect on the DRV8353R. If I am using in the 1x PWM mode, what will happen if one of the motor hall effect outputs is always high? Will I get a fault and the drive will stop running, or will there be an error on which gate drives turn on and no fault reported?

    Are your hall outputs going directly to the inputs of the DRV? Or do the hall inputs first go to an MCU?

    If one of your inputs gets stuck high, then the driver will just do as the truth table says. The motor would stop spinning, due to the commutation order no longer being correct. You may encounter a fault depending on if the stop is sudden enough to trigger a VDS or OCP event.

  • The hall signals go directly to the DRV8353. So if one of the hall signals gets stuck on high all of the time but the other hall signals change as the motor spins, then there will be times when, for example, all 3 hall signals are high. If the DRV8353 encounters this case, what will it do?

    The device will behave accordingly:

    With all inputs 1, you will see the highlighed behavior. you can consult the table for the other combinations of highs and lows as well.
