MCF8329A: During open-loop acceleration, a current-loop-saturationfault is reported, but it disappears immediately.

Part Number: MCF8329A

Hi,

In open-loop ramp-up, I’m seeing a brief current-loop-saturationerror that flashes and then clears. Why does this happen?

.The current waveform after entering closed-loop under no-load conditions is shown in the figure below. It is not a regular sine wave. Which parameters can affect the current waveform?

Thank you.

  • Hi Huade,

The current‑loop saturation event is triggered whenever the driver attains a 100 % modulation index, owing to the high‑current transients that can arise during the transition from open‑loop to closed‑loop operation. Reducing the θ‑ramp rate (or, equivalently, the closed‑loop slow‑acceleration parameter) will reducethe current overshoot that occurs during this open‑to‑closed‑loop transition.

The motor‑current waveform is distorted because the back‑electromotive‑force (BEMF) waveform is non‑sinusoidal. Please provide the motor’s BEMF waveform.

    Thanks,

    Dhinesh
