DRV8836 Motor driver problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8836

Dear sir,

I am facing a strange problem with DRV8836 when connected in dual motor settings with PHASE/ENABLE input type. One of the motors rotate faster than the other. I have tested with multiple motors and of different make and the result is the same. I believe my connections are proper.

Hope someone can shed light on the probable cause. Please let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks,

Vinod

  • Hi Vinod,

This is very odd indeed. Both H Bridges should behave identically. Here are some questions I have:

    1. Are  you PWMin'g or just enabling the H Bridges with 100%?

    2. How are the motors wired into the device?

    3. You have interchanged both motors and the slower speed follows the H Bridge, not the motor, right?

    4. Are these tests performed on your board or one of our EVM's?

    Best regards,

  • HI Jose,

    1. I am applying a PMW of 100% duty cycle to both channels.

    2. I have connected the tow motors directly to AOUT1, AOUT2 and BOUT1, BOUT2.

    3. Yes, I have interchanged the motors to both channels and I see that the output of one channel is slower than the other.

    4. I have built myself a board and tested it.

    Thanks,

    Vinod

  • Vinod,

What voltages are you seeing at the outputs? The high side, how close is it to VM and the low side, how close is it to GND? Apparently one of the outputs is too far from its target so it would help to look at why.
