Controlling 5 stepper motors

Hi everyone

I am doing a project on stepper motor control, in my project I have to control 5 stepper motors using MSP430 family CC430F513 microcontroller.

Can anyone suggest me the type of motor drive IC I have to use

My supply voltage is 24 V and all stepper motors are rated to 3 Amps.

Hi ,you can choose drv8412(one drv8412 can drive one stepper motor, so you need 5 pcs drv8412 . its peak current up to 6A ,Continuous Output current 3A). also you can choose DRV8829 or DRV8842 ,they can match yp your need, but both DRV8829 and DRV8842 only have one H-bridge, you need two DRV8829 or DRV8842 to drive one stepper motor ,so you have to put 10 DRV8829 or DRV8842 on your board for driving 5 stepper motor

You mention that your stepper motors are rated for 3A, but I am not sure you really need that much current for your project. You can really simplify your life and project, by using 5x DRV8818. The DRV8818 has a simple STEP/DIR input control that would use 2 GPIOs (minimum). So, you can control 5x DRV8818 with only 10 GPIOs.

Thank you for your reply, I am completely new to this concept of controlling stepper motors. Can you please explain me how to give PWM signal and how can I connect hardware with 2 gpio of MSP430 family CC430f5137 to motor control driver DRV8818 to control 5 stepper motors.
