DRV8301 ADC requirement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301

Hi,

Referring page 5/7 of the DRV8301 - HC - C2 - kit schematics.  The current sense feedback IA-FB, IB-FB, IC-FB is being captured by 2 ADC's i.e., IA-FB connected to A1 & B3, IB-FB connected to B1 & B5 while IC-FB connected to A3 & A5.

Could I know why the data is being captured by 2 ADC's.  However the motor control code f2803xileg_vdc_PM.h takes the data from A1 & B1 ADC's only i.e., B3, B5, A3 & A5 is never used in the code.

Pl clarify.

thx & rgds

  • This was done so the hardward base board could be compatible with current and future controlcards.  No other reason.

  • Hello all,

First of all, I am sorry if i may have misunderstood something but from the schematics of the drv8301 i can see that the only ADC which is "free" for the user to use is the ADC-A4. All the other channels are connected to a specific module of the board (e.g. current sensors, pot etc). But the ADC-A4 isn't even connected to any jumper on the evaluation kit, so if i want to get an external measurement i have to manually connect the pin 65 of J1 (which is the ADC-A4) to the device i want to measure? This seems too bad to be true and i really think i miss something essential.

FYI i am using the drv8301 with the F28069M running the InstaSpin-FOC if this may be relevant.

    Thank you in advance,

    Alexandros

  • Hi Alexandros,

I believe you are correct in that this is the only ADC not wired to some component. I am not sure of the reasoning for not bringing the unused pins out to a header (this board was developed several years ago).

Your best bet is to blue wire from the bottom of the header to where you want to measure the signal.
