Eval kit for BLDC servo motor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE, DRV8301, DRV8312

I am looking for an eval kit for BLDC servo motor for position control with force control.  Which kit and motor would be good for this?

Thanks,

Marcos

  • Marcos,

Please see the following kit that includes a motor with encoder.  This is probably the best option.

  • Hi Ryan,

I have similar porject as Marcos, but I have some confusion here.

DRV8301-LS-KIT is advertised for speed control and torque control on its main page, but no position control is mentioned. I want to confirm what is the implication of this.

I know that this KIT is using encoder for FOC, and at the same time, using back EMF signal for redundant position estimation. (Not so sure why on the main page, it's said speed estimation.)

Since the KIT has the encoder info, and has a capable Core Chip, it should be able to establish a position control loop and realize a PI(D) position control.

I don't know why position control is not listed there... is it because the project cases has not been packaged yet, and the customer has to program the code on their own?

Anyhow, I want to confirm if I can use this KIT to realize a close-loop position control, without adding use IC peripherals.

Thanks a lot for helping out!

    Yours Kevin SJ

  • The only hardware today that has position control software example is TMDSHVMTRPFCKIT, using Piccolo F28035 and software support through controlSUITE.

The Hercules kits (DRV8301- LSxx, RMxx) are good if you are capable of taking the speed+torque control example and adding your own position loop.

There will also be some new position control software capability coming end of November, that will run on the DRV8312, DRV8301, and HVMTR kits with a Piccolo F28069M controlCARD.

  • Dear Chris,

Thanks for your confirmation. I think your saying--"adding your own position loop" only involves with software, no hardware.

I will probably try it out to use Hercules kits to realize a position control loop. Thanks again.

    Have a good day!

    Yours Kevin SJ

  • Correct, the Hercules kit just needs the SW position control loop added. The HW / SW encoder is already working in the velocity control.
