Question aobut DRV8412

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8412

Hello TIer

Q1. I'm going to ask about minimum time to change direction when I use DRV8412.

How much fast I could change the direction continuously?

My goal is that changing direction 10 times in a second.

Q2. Another question  is that I want to put 0.1ohm resistor to measure the voltage between source-end of low-side FET and GND.

Is there any concerning point with using resistor? If you expect any problem, please share with me.

  • Hi Jake

Please refer to my comments below.

Q1. The limit is not on the DRV8412 side but on your motor or electromagnet side for them to give a real movement as a response to the current reversing. Usually the more mass or inertia, the lower response frequency of the motor or electromagnet. 10 times in a second for the current reverse controll (Phase change) will be no problem for DRV8412.

Q2. Two ways to add the shunt resistor are provided on P14 of the datasheet. you can put the resistor between PVDD to PVDD_X or GND_X to GND. But if you want to put it on the low-side source(GND_X) to GND, the shunt resistor value should be 10m ohm or less. Or, the shunt voltage is less than 100mV all the time including startup. If you motor current may generate more than 100mV at 100m ohm (1A, in most case, it does). Your 100m ohm is not recommended.

    Thanks.
