DRV8432 Heat Slug and GNDOh

Quick question: on some of our prototypes, we've got a resistance of 10 ohms between GND and the slug when they're not connected.  Some seem to have 1 - 2 MOhms between the slug and GND.

Could we have damaged motor drivers where we see 1-2 MOhms?

  • Hi John,

The motor driver should be fine.

This is actually a result of how the slug is sitting internally within the package. Sometimes due to tolerances in the manufacturing process it can come to rest against GND metal (no issues with this, the slug just acts as a large GND shield).

We generally recommend connecting the heat sink to GND to reduce noise.
