drv8811 proper layout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8811

below is my attempt at a proper layout for the drv8811. I would be most grateful to anyone who could give it a once over and tell me if I've made any mistakes. the 7 pin connector at the top is representing the micro that is driving the chip and the 4 pin connector on the right is going to the stepper.

thanks,
bazza

  • Hi Bazza

    Some comments below:

    1. Please add a aluminum electrolytic capacitor (normally 100uf ~470uf) to VM and GND and close to VM and GND pins. C7 is still needed.

    2. What is your stepper current? VCC? VM? I see a 3ohm sense resistor. if VCC = 5V, that will limit your current at 5/(8*3)=200mA. That is a really small current stepper. Please check whether it is true.

    Thanks.

  • 1. smoothing cap, gotcha
    2. vcc: 5v
        vm: 12v
and ive come up with a new resistor value of .5 Ohms that should provide the 1.25A that my stepper requires
everything else is well and good?
