DRV 2603 has got EN pin , is it Chip Enable or Motor Drive Enable?
If its Chip Enable, as per our understanding PWM pin can be used for driving the Motor, in our application we don’t need Motor speed control, we need only Motor ON/OFF function, hence we can toggle PWM pin between 0 and 1, please clarify.

The EN pin is for the device itself (chip enable). For the motor to be driven there needs to be a PWM signal that is fed to the PWM pin of the driver. However, using the EN pin wisely would put it to a low power mode when motor is not being driven.

Gautham,

PWM is needed only if I want to control the speed of motor. For my application, that is not necessary. In that case, is it okay to drive the PWM pin high(in other words 100% duty cycle) from a GPIO of a MSP430F235?

I only want to turn on/off the motor. Please let me know in case you need any clarification.

Hi, Vignesh:

DRV2603 accepts 0% to 100% Duty Cycle Control Range.

so, if you want to turn on the motor, pull high the EN pin; else, just pull low the EN pin to put DRV2603 to powersaving mode.

Hi,

Are you telling me that PWM pin can be hard-coded as high (DC=100% duty) and EN can be used to control the device?

logically, it works. but I am not sure about the performance, especially the startup and brake.

Hi,

I just got one more idea, how about driving both EN pin and PWM pin from a single GPIO? I suppose fanout is not a problem since the input current rating of these pins are in uA(micro amps) where as my MSP430 GPIO can source upto 6mA.. Curious to know about timing or any constraints you can think of..

if the PWM and EN pin are tied together, there will be no auto-brake.

I cannot think of any other constraints.
