DRV8432 bipolar stepper motor driver circuit with sleep or hold mode?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8825, DRV8828

Hello,

I am looking for the mode in DRV8432 to bring the bipolar stepper motor to sleep or hold mode? Because, I want to keep the bipolar stepper motor with holding current which should have a torque to hold the motor shaft in one position while it is not running?

Thanks

  • Sijo,

DRV8432 does not have in-build (internal) current control mechanism so you have to rely on external control loop to control the current in hold mode. Or simplest apporach would be keep operate the H-bridge in constant duty cycle of 5-10% depending upon the holding current.

If your drive current requirment is not very high, you can consider DRV8825 or DRV8828/29 which comes with internal current control mechanism.

    Bes Regards

  • My current requirement is high. So, i would like to go with DRV8432. I would like to use this chip for Bipolar stepper motor.  what should be the PWM input for PWM_A and PWM_B? It should be same phase or 180degree phase shift or anything else?

Do you have the detailed datasheet for this chip?

    Thanks
