Are you using AutoCalibration settings? Or did you change the settings after the AutoCAL estimate?
Ideally it should be done after actuator is assembled on the end product and all the parts are attached as, the mechanical structure will change the dynamics of the calibration values. So just before the product is put inside a box will be good.
Another option is to run AutoCAL at startup of the product at the end user side.

Good question.
We we use a silicone based material in our lab to do most of our testing. It is very cheap and the properties of the material matches the response that of a skin very closely. This would be an ideal environment to do an AutoCAL.
