could not establish the connection DRV8313EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553, DRV8313

Hi,

I am developing the DRV8313 EVM,i want to control the motor through GUI , i have programmed the MSP430G2553 with DRV8313_B_Firmware the drivers are installed properly, voltages and jumpers settings are perfect, still the GUI is showing check hardware connections.

what would be the mistake kindly suggest how to solve the problem

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Shruthi, can you verify that VM power is applied?  That is needed for GUI communications.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • If VM power is not the issue, also try following the steps in the ReadMe to change the COM Port to 4.  Let me know what you find.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Hi sir,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have changed the com port to 2, and it is still the same ,i feel it is not the issue of com port since usb is getting detected and am taking 3.3v from DRV8313 so 24V is also not a problem.I have TI EVM which is working perfectly with GUI,but i think there is some problem with my PCB which is why communication is not happening.
could you pl give any suggestions .

    Thank you

  • Shruthi,

Can you share the schematic and layout of your board? It will help to analyse the issue.

  • Hi sir,

Thank you very much for the response .

It is working now,i didn't make any changes,i think due to loose contact it was not detected ,But one thing i have observed driver IC 8313 is heating very much compared to the sample PCB of TI i have.

  • The device temperature could be different depending on the value of Rsense (which limits current), and whether the thermal pad is soldered, and the size of the ground plane metal on the top and bottom sides of the board near the device.

  • Hi Sir,

In DRV8313 i didn't solder the thermal pad,Should the thermal pad also to be soldered?,i thought ground pins are connected to the pad so i didn't solder the pad separately. Here am attaching the layouts Pl suggest if there is any thing to modify in the design6560.Cadstar - R15382V1.pdf5658.r15382v1.pdf

    Thank you

  • Hi Shruthi, thermal pads should always be soldered to GND, because that allows heat to dissipate from the device into the board, so the board acts like a heatsink.  It is also best practice to place vias under the thermal pad to connect the top and bottom board layers together (where both layers are GND planes).  Then both the top and bottom sides of the board are utilized as a heatsink.

  • Hi Shruthi,

I'm developing a driver software to drive a solenoid.

I have bought the DRV8313 EVM and has provided supply to the board, rated (2A @ 12V) and all the jumper connections and the USB connections are good.

Initially the connection to the board is established and the blinking of green and light green occurs. After 4 to 5 sec the connection is lost and blinking of green and red occurs. Finally after 10 attempts to connect, a message is displayed "Please check your Hardware connections".

Can you please help me with this? Am I missing any kind of clue here.

    Thank you.
