  • Frank, I think you might be running file: \Application\Application Files\DRV8824-25 EVM_1_0_0_2\DRV8824-25 EVM.application

Please see the included ReadMe.pdf...what you want to do is run \Application\setup.exe.  After the installation completes, the GUI will automatically run, and if the EVM isn't connected you'll see an error message.  After installation, the shortcut to run the GUI will be in Start\Programs\Texas Instruments, Inc.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • That listing is a result of running setup.exe, the installation never completes, and always ends w/ this message. I've tried re-downloading the slvc502a.zip file and tried running the setup.exe file multiple times. You can see from the error file that it tries to access a non-existent URL. I always get the "Cannot Start Application" popup with the OK and Details... buttons.

    Downloading http://cna0222673/DRV8824-25 EVM/DRV8824-25 EVM.application did not succeed.

That URL does not exist, why it it trying to access an web address that does not exist?

  • Sorry for the trouble.  I have a couple ideas.

First, can you please verify your directory hierarchy is this?

I'm able to reproduce similar errors if that isn't right.

Second, we recently updated this GUI, and maybe it wasn't packaged up properly to be able to run on any system.  Can you try the previous rev?  Click here to download: 5226.Rev1.zip

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Yes, that is the directory structure that appeared after unzipping the file.

I downloaded the 5226.Rev1.zip file and it installed OK, except that It appears to be looking for a RS232 serial port.

The only choice is COM3 which of course I don't have because it's supposed to be hooked up using a USB cable.

  • Ah ha, it was a problem with the way the new rev was packaged.  I'll make sure we fix that.

To answer your question about ports, you simply connect your PC to the evaluation board with USB, and the FTD232 chip converts USB to serial for the MSP430.  That's why the GUI talks in terms of a serial COM port.  Let me know if it doesn't work.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • OK, the older 5226 version appears to be running and communicating w/ the eval board.

    Thanks

  • Please let me know when the repackaged fix is available, as I'd like to run the motor real slow w/ 1/32 micro-stepping to see how it behaves.

    Thanks Again.

  • Please note that with this previous version, the "Move Steps" button doesn't work.  If you really want that function, you can run the older-yet version of the GUI: http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slvc342.  As you can see, we've had several bugs with these GUIs, but we continue to fix them as they're identified.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Hi Frank, you should be able to run with 1/32 right now.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Hi, I have purchased the DRV8825 development board and I have the same issue as described before. I have Downloaded slvc502a and I get the same message:

    failure messages were detected:
+ Downloading http://cna0222673/DRV8824-25 EVM/DRV8824-25 EVM. application did not succeed.
+ The remote name could not be resolved: 'cna0222673'

I am running a 64 bit windows 7 computer and have followed the steps listed in the pdf installation file.

I have tried  as 5226.Rev1 as well.

Please help would be very appreciated. Thanks

  • Omar, the error with "http://cna" is a known problem with Rev.A, and we're working to recompile that GUI.  In the mean time, I thought 5226.Rev1.zip should work; what's your specific problem with that?  Make sure you have admin rights on your computer.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Thank you for your response. After running setup for 5226.Rev1, i got " application cannot be started. Please see below the details of the log issue.

  • Hi gentlemen, since I have not heard from you for few days, it would be very appreciated if you have any other input, suggestions on how can I run this development module, as well as I would like to know whether or not Texas instruments will release a new version of it that will work , at least to try the DRV8825 development module on windows 7 environment.

    Thanks

    Omar

  • Omar, sorry to hear of your trouble.  I really hope you can get this working.  Your log from installing the Rev1 version has this as the primary problem: "The referenced assembly is not installed on your system".  I googled that, and check out the 2nd result.  2 people said that deleting the \Apps\2.0\ directory fixed it for them.

I haven't seen that error before.  Please try that and let me know if that works.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Thank you!, I am going to try it and Let you know.

    Omar

  • Thank you I have it working. Thanks for your help.

  • It is now Jan 2015 and the same install error has not been fixed yet! Come on folks, this was identified months ago...
  • Frank, Michael,

I haven't been able to replicate the error you're getting, on both a Win7 PC and a WinXP 32-bit new-install with all the Windows Updates.  I wonder if your error is due to your PC not having the necessary runtime libraries installed.

–The GUI was created in Visual Basic, and I found this webpage ("In order to run Visual Basic applications, the Visual Basic run-time files are required").  Here's a direct link to the Microsoft installer.

–If you install that and reboot, and the error persists, you could also try installing the Visual C++ 2008 runtime.

–Finally, using Windows Update might fix it.  Here's a way to still run it in XP.

Please keep me posted with what works or doesn't.

    Best regards,
    RE

  • Hello,

Our customer want to use the DRV8824EVM.
The customer can not load the application file, too.

    slvc502a :NG
5226.Rev1 : OK but the customer want to use 'Move Steps'
slvc342 : there is error message as follows

    =====================================
    DRV881213 EVM
Component 'tabctl32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not
correctly registerd : a file is missing or invalid
      =====================================

How should the customer do ?

    Best Regards,
    Naoki Aoyama
  • Hi Aoyama-san,

For the DRV881213 EVM, the tabctl32.ocx file could be missing or improperly registered.

The file should be located in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder

Please refer to the following LINK for details
