DRV8840 VOUT1-pin

DRV8840 has two VOUT1-pin.
I think that this two pin must be connected for supplying large current to motor.
But it is separated from arrangement of these pins.

1.Why these pin is separated?
2.Can only one of VOUT1-pin be used?

Shimizu,

As per data-sheet, both pins must be connected in PCB.

But I can see that Vout-1 pins 5 and 10 are quite seperated, let me confirm with designer if only one VOut-1 can be used.

Shimizu-San,

As per desginer main affect of using only one pin are:

1. max current value OUTPUT can handle will drop

2. the Rdson will be slightly higher too.

3. Major concern is that since the bond wires are reduced by half, when real short event happens, it may damage them. This affects device long term relaibility.

So it's not recommended to use single pin.
