HEllo,

I am trying to connect the DRV8802 EVM to my Windows XP system.

I have followed all the instructions from the "readme" pdf .

I have changed to COM port settings and chosen "COM port 3" for communication.

However, I do not see the pin toggling reflecting on hardware. Any changes that I do in the GUI are not reflected on the EVM.

The GUI says "connected" and the text box has turned green .But I dont think that it is communicating with the EVM.

Also the Status LED on the EVM is off.

Hi Anuja

The status LED on the EVM should be flashing with about 1Hz. If not seeing it flashing, there must be something wrong.
Have you connected the VM power supply? Have you checked the power supply of the MCU on the EVM. You can refer to the schematic of the EVM to check the power supply chain of the EVM.

I have checked all the power supplies. I see, 12V,5V and 3.3V are working well.
I have a feeling that the microcontroller on the board is not programmed.
Can you please suggest solutions.

Is this a new EVM? I checked that the DRV8802EVM MCU will be powered just when the USB cable is plugged in and connected to computer, even without the VM supply. Then, the status LED should be flashing.

How about pushing the reset button? If still not working, there should be some hardware issue of the MCU block.
All the firmware and hardware files can be downloaded from DRV8802 EVM folder on www.ti.com.

By removing the R11 and R12, you can also test DRV8802 alone with external inputs to the test points.

Yes, please try the reset button. The board status light should flash once USB is connected, with no GUI and no VM power.

Btw, COM Port 4 is the best, but Ports 1-3 are also selectable in the GUI.

But I tried Reset Button.That doesn't help too.

Sounds like the board is truely broken. You can try reprogram the MCU if you have the MSP430FET tool. Another thing came to me is that maybe only the 8M crystal is broken. You can try swap one before sentence the board to death.
