How to do the tuning with DRV10983 based on the new designed motor and PCB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983, USB2ANY, DRV10983EVM

Hi,

There is a  project which design for driving a blower using DRV10983 and a MCU. The designed(PCB,software, motor) is finished and verified.

But now the motor is re-designed for optimization(the other part including PCB,software is not changed). After embedding the new motor into the current system, we found that the behavior of the motor is not correct: while the PWM is between 0% and approx. 50%, it spin up for several seconds and stop finally.while the PWM is beyond approx. 50%, it will spins up for a while with unstable speed and spin to the max speed finally.

In this case, I wanna know if it's a must to do a new tuning? How to do it?(I don't have the DRV10983 evaluation board and USB2ANY I2C tool on hand)

  • Bob,

Yes you would need to re-tune DRV10983 based on new motor parameter. You must have USB to ANY for re-tuning using GUI. There are two ways to proceed:

    1. If you have  connector option for USB to ANy in your exisitng board, tuning can be done on board.  If not, bring out jumper wires by soldering them on boards for  DRV10983 I^2C pins, SDA, SCL & GND. These 3-wires can be connected to USB to ANY 3-pins.

    2.  The easier way is to use DRV10983EVM + USBtoANy.

    Best Regards
