DRV8308 motor speed detection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8308

Dear Sir,
I am going to use DRV8308 for motor driver controller ,but I am not sure can it be driven up to 500W,
moreover, we want to detect motor speed , Does DRV8308 have this function? how to do ?

Thanks.

  • Hi Passerby,

The DRV8308 can drive up to 500W, as long as VM is 32V or less. The DRV8308 indicates motor speed using the FGOUT signal. This timing on this signal can be converted into motor speed.
  • passerby, the way to look at this is that the motor voltage (VM) must be between 8.5-32V.  If you use the common 24V, for example, 20.8A achieves 500W.  Getting that current capability is entirely based on the external N-channel MOSFETs that you select, based on their max ID rating, their Rds(on), and your acceptable amount of heat increase.  Also consider whether 500W is your peak power or RMS, because the peak current capability of MOSFETs is always much higher.

    Best regards,
