DRV8305-Q1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8305-Q1

We are using the DRV8305-Q1 part, but having some problems.

First, our part is labeled:

PDRV83055

56TG4

A3DL

Does the 'P' in the part number have significance, i.e., is this some kind of 'pre-release' part?

We're using a SPI interface to write to all of the configuration registers, and I believe this is working correctly.  I can read register values, etc.

When we change bit fields for most registers, we see changes on our board, with a scope.  However, for the 2 registers x5/x6, HS/LS gate control, when we change the bit fields TDRIVEN/TDRIVEP we don't observe changes on our board.  Changing other bit fields in these registers does produce observable changes.

The data sheet we're working from is a 'preliminary' data sheet, date Feb. 2015.  We wonder if something has changed, if there is a newer data sheet, and if our part is 'up to date'.

So, are we working with a part that has all the features functional, as described in the data sheet?  Should not changing the 2 bit fields TDRIVEN/TDRIVEP produce observable changes?

  • Hi Chuck,

Our expert on this device has been notified and should reply soon.

The "P" prefix indicates the device is pre-production. Final production devices will have the "P" prefix removed.
  • Hi Chuck,

Change TDRIVE may not produce a notable effect depending on the IDRIVE and MOSFETs used..

We have a detailed app notes on these features, but in short TDRIVE is the max time the peak gate drive current will be applied to the MOSFET gate. If the desired gate voltage is reached before TDRIVE expires the gate drive will switch to a lower holding current. If the gate voltage does not change during the TDRIVE period (indicative of a fault) we will assert a gate drive fault.

So if the MOSFET still enhances within the TDRIVE period, even though it has changed, you will not notice a difference.
