Hello All,

One of our customer is using DRV10983 for ceiling fan application and able to successfully run the motor with adjusting some parameters.

They have tested the board externally connected to motor and are able to drive it without any initial push to start.

But when they put Board(SMPS+Driver and microcontroller) in Ceiling fan hub, an issue occurred. Motor needs little external push to start. They tried both IPD and Align n Go method. Problem remained same. They are sending speed command by I2C mode.

(Note: Internal Spacing between motor and circuit board is less than 5mm.)

- Does magnetic field of magnets and winding affects DRV or UC?

- Will some adjustments with IPD or Align n GO setting will Solve the problem?

- Does I2C communication fails because of magnetic interference?

- Can we add capacitor w.r.t. ground to each coil to reduce noise?

Hi Nilesh,

Ideally, DRV10983 should not have any issue whether it is connected to Vbattery or SMPS. I don't think we can suggest a solution before we figure out the issue.

Can you share us one of winding current and supply voltage for both cases? Vbattery and SMPS?

Hello Seil,

We have add 3.3nanoFarad capacitor between uv and vw phase of coil, and problem is solved but is this a reliable solution.

Please give us suggestion so that we can improve our design.

HI Nilesh,

It sounds like you supply voltage is dropping or going into over current condition.
can you check those two conditions?

Hello Seil,

As per your suggestion they have checked the two conditions and come to know that its not a power supply issue.

It is actually because of electromagnetic interference between driver circuit board and motor.

Hence they have add 3.3nanoFarad capacitor between uv and vw phase of coil, and problem is solved.

Please give us suggestion so that we can improve our design.
