DRV8305 Question about schematic

Hi

We have questions of typical application schematic from the datasheet.

1. WAKE pin seems to be open. Can we leave WAKE pin open?

2. There are four feedback circuit (ASENSE/BSENSE/CSENSE/PVDDSENSE) from FET out to ADC in MCU.

Are these feedback circuits necessary when we use DRV8305?

3. Are there any power up/off sequence between MCU and DRV8305 when they have each power supply?

4. DRV8305 has SPI I/F. Can we use DRV8305 without SPI connecting with MCU?

regards

  • 1. WAKE is used to reactivate the device after it has entered SLEEP mode. See section 7.4.1.4 of the datasheet.

    2. The typical application demonstrates a sensorless FOC BLDC system. The back-emf voltage signals are used in the control of the motor. Whether or not you need these will depend on your motor control method. The DRV8305 only requires the SH and SL sense lines for the gate drivers and protection circuits.

    3. There is no specific sequence outside of what I detailed for the VREF pin. The DRV8305 is typically powered up before the MCU since it is often supplying the voltage for the MCU from it's LDO.

    4. It is possible, but should check to see if the default configuration is suitable for your application. The default SPI settings are listed in the datasheet.
