DRV8818 - Fault Condition Indication Pin (nFAULT)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8818, DRV8813

In the datasheet of DRV8818 is written "Fault Condition Indication Pin (nFAULT)"

I cannot find in any database how to recognize fault.

is anyone ever deal with this issue ?

another question what is the diffrence between DRV8818 & DRV8813 ?

Regards,

Yariv

  • Hi Yariv,

This is a typo in the datasheet. There is no nFAULT pin.

There is a method to detect faults. The HOMEn pin can be used to detect if a fault occurs. The HOMEn pin should only assert when the index table is at step angle 45 degrees. If the number of step inputs between HOMEn assertions does not match the expected location, a fault has occurred.

The DRV8818 has an internal indexer which controls the current at each step based on Table 2 of the datasheet. The DRV8813 requires an external indexer (usually a microcontroller with two DAC outputs) to control the VREF pins (current), PHASE (direction), and ENABLE the outputs.

The DRV8813 also has a higher operating voltage range and higher RDSon.
