Hello,

I want to use DRV8305 for driving three phase sensored BLDC motor, with PWM_MODE='10' in gate control register 0x7. This is "One single PWM that uses internally stored 6-step block commutation tables", using as input the signals from the three hall sensors.

The question is: Is it possible in this mode to have rotation CCW and rotation CW? I have searched but did not find any bit in any control register that could be used to reverse direction of rotation of the motor.

Hi Ivan,

We are working to clarify this section in the datasheet.

The DRV8305 is not intended to be driven directly from hall sensor inputs. It does not have a direction or brake pin common in those schemes. It is intended to have a low cost MCU act as an interface between the motor and DRV8305 and send the single PWM and commutation states.

You can connect it directly to hall sensors but it will only support one direction commutation.
